Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) teamed up with Authorium to improve their department’s travel authorization processes and evolve from duplicative, paper-based workflows to cloud-based, collaborative, and streamlined operations.
WDVA Chief Information Officer, Crystal Scheinbein, shared insights on the department’s modernization effort during a 2025 Authorium webinar. Hear more about WDVA’s efforts and watch the webinar for the complete story.
Journey to Automation
Upon joining WDVA in 2021 Scheinbein recognized the need for adjustments within the department’s existing workflows. Before executing a plan, the team determined what tools were necessary to support administrative operations, and how these capabilities would better serve veterans in their state.
WDVA’s Challenge: to efficiently report data across their department and beyond.
Solution: Leverage a platform to streamline travel data requests and enable WDVA staff to gain critical insights about travel, including:
• Where are we traveling?
• What are we doing to support our residents?
• How are we supporting our target areas?
• Are costs within the allocated budget?
The inability to answer these questions could lead to delays in reporting data required for funding and prevent support from reaching veterans in need. With Authorium, WDVA is working to centralize administrative workflow for travel data, allowing the department to answer these questions efficiently and effectively.
